I don’t think any holiday is complete without the adoption of an animal or two. Whenever I go away there is always one that leaves a lasting impression on me. Bendy Dog from Thailand, Waffle Dog from Turkey, the parrot that crapped on me in Bolivia! This year it was a whole gang of cats that lived on the roof of our hotel.
The Islamic faith says that the Prophet Mohammad was tender and kind towards cats and as a results Muslims tend to treat cats with respect. This is probably not true in all cases but it appeared to be that way in Tunisia. The little rooftop family seemed healthy, well fed and very playful. My favourite was the little black kitten who wouldn’t let me pick him up – the more I tried the less he would let me which made me want to do it all the more! Reverse psychology!
